Junction Lock. The junction locks
were originally used to connect the older Erie Canal with this newer
version that we are now on. This has been turned in to a drydock
and repair facility. It is on the top pool - the pool between Locks
E-21 and E-20. We will now be dropping all the way to the tidal Hudson. |

We secured the YC to the wall at
the Utica Harbor Lock. This lock is not in use. We ran back light boat
for the YFN. |

Approaching Lock E-21 from the east
(high side). We drop down to Lake Ontario from here. |
|
We stopped in Brewertonat the terminal
dock. Brewerton is the western canal town on Oneida Lake. This was
sunrise looking back towards Oneida Lake. we are about 34 miles from
Oswego and our other barge. |

|
Coming up on Lock O-8. These barges
are 110 ft long by 40 ft wide. With the tug we were 160 ft long. Every
lock on the system is 300 ft long by 44 ft wide.Visibility was a
bit limited with this barge. The next bridge was a problem height-wise
so they had me tread wayer just before it and then open the valves
behind me at Lock O-8 to lower the pool level. It worked, the level
dropped and we got under the bridge. |
