WORK HOURS


Management is responsible for establishing employee work schedules that conform to applicable country, state, and federal regulations and meet the needs of Intracoastal Transportation, Inc.
Human Resources is responsible for keeping management advised of current regulations concerning employee working conditions.

Work Week
Intracoastal Transportation, Inc strives to maintain work schedules that meet the operational needs of the works site, its customers, and company objectives. The standard work week is considered normal operating procedure. However, with the approval of the work unit's vice president, work units may implement changes to work schedules and work locations that may include but are not limited to flextime or alternate work schedules to meet operational demands. Implementation of an "alternate work schedule" may need to follow prescribed regulatory procedures. Therefore, managers should contact Human Resources to ensure that proper procedures are followed before implementing any type of alternate work schedule. The following information generally applies to non-exempt positions. Exempt positions may require employees to work the amount of time necessary to perform their job.


Work Week:
For payroll purposes, a work week is the period of seven consecutive days that begins at 12:01 a.m. Sunday and ends at midnight Saturday

Standard Work Week:
A standard work week is the regularly scheduled workdays of Monday through Friday.


Standard Workday:
A standard workday is a period of up to twelve working hours within a 24-hour period

Shifts
First and second shifts consist of eight working hours. The third shift may vary depending on the need of the operation or job function being performed. Scheduled hours for shifts to begin and end may be established by the departments/units according to operational needs. If you are called in to work a shift or have been assigned to a shift, and you work less than four hours, you will be paid for four hours. If you work between four and eight hours you will be paid for the full eight hours.

Rest Periods
Employees are allowed one 15-minute rest period for every 4 consecutive hours of work, excluding their lunch period. The rest period begins at the time the employee departs from their work station and ends at their return to the work station. Intracoastal Transportation, Inc work sites provide facilities for the employees' use and convenience during their rest periods. A rest period is not required for employees whose total daily time worked is less than three and one-half hours. Rest periods are counted as hours worked to determine pay. Depending on the nature of the work on any given day, the time of your rest period my change. (Example: It may normally be at 1000, but if you are in the middle of a barge move, the rest period may take place before or after the move.)


Meal Periods
Time allotted for meal periods is not less than 30 minutes and not greater than one hour in a consecutive five-hour work period. The official start and stop times and the length of the meal period may be determined by management. When an employee is required by management to take less than the allotted lunch break, time worked during the meal period must be counted as part of the employee's workday. Employees should not be permitted to work more than five consecutive hours without taking a meal period, except when an employee works only six hours per day and does not wish to take a meal period.
