STATUS


Intracoastal Transportation, Inc employees are classified by employment status. Intracoastal Transportation, Inc created various employment status classifications to fit the needs of the company's growing human resources requirements. Intracoastal Transportation, Inc maintains an "at will" employment relationship with its employees, therefore, does not have a designated status of "permanent" employees.


Regular Full-time Intracoastal Transportation, Inc Employee
A regular full-time employee is an employee who is regularly scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week. Regular full-time employees are eligible to participate in Intracoastal Transportation, Inc's employee benefit programs. Those employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week receive time-off benefits on a prorated basis according to the percentage of a full work week they are regularly scheduled to work.


Regular Part-time Intracoastal Transportation, Inc Employee
A regular part-time employee is an employee regularly scheduled to work less than 30 hours per week. Regular part-time employees who work 20-29 hours per week are eligible for reduced benefits. Employees who work less than 20 hours per week are not eligible for most employee benefits. The Employee Benefits Handbook outlines the level of benefits for these employees. An employee who changes from part-time to full-time status is eligible for employee benefits as a newly hired full-time employee as of the status change date.
Employees who occasionally work more than 30 hours per week, such as during school holidays or during the summer, remain classified as part-time employees and are not eligible for benefits.


Job Share
In a job share position, two employees share the responsibility for one job, each working a percentage of the full time work schedule. Job shares usually accommodate current employees in good standing.


Temporary Personnel
Temporary personnel are hired to fill full-time or part-time temporary staffing needs. The minimum duration of a temporary position is one day. The maximum duration of a temporary position is generally no more than nine (9) months. Students may be hired on a temporary basis as part of a college summer program.


Temporary personnel:
• are not eligible to participate in Intracoastal Transportation, Inc's employee benefits and are paid only for actual hours worked;
• are not automatically eligible for vessel access; access is at the discretion of the Manager.
When a temporary employee is hired as a full-time Intracoastal Transportation, Inc employee, the full-time hire date is the effective date for employee benefits.


Applications from temporary personnel for full-time employment are not considered until the position has been posted for 5 days. This requirement includes temporary personnel who may currently be working in a position similar to or the same as the posted position.


Independent Contractors
Independent Contractors are individuals hired and paid under a contractual agreement to perform for a specific period of time or for the duration of a specified project. Independent contractors are not Intracoastal Transportation, Inc employees. They retain the right to control and direct their own work; are responsible for their own business arrangements, benefits, facilities, equipment and finances, including applicable taxes.
