HIRING RELATIVES

Intracoastal Transportation, Inc provides for the employment of relatives, but maintains the security of the organization. Intracoastal Transportation, Inc may employ relatives of current Intracoastal Transportation, Inc employees unless such employment adversely affects the supervision, security, morale, or safety of the organization's employees and/or operations; or creates a potential conflict of interest.

DEFINITIONS
Relatives are defined as:
• spouse,
• father, mother, son, daughter, brother, sister (or a "step/in-law" relation),
• aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, first cousin,
• grandfather, grandmother, grandson, granddaughter,
• qualified domestic partners, or
• qualified domestic partner's children, father, mother, brother, sister (or "in-law" relations).
The president and the senior vice president of Human Resources approve on an individual basis the hiring of relatives of officers, managers, or other employees who have access to confidential information such as payroll, personnel, or financial data.

The employment of relatives is allowed with the following provisions:
1. A person may not be placed in a position that is directly or indirectly managed by a relative, or in a unit for which a relative has financial authority.
2. A person may not be placed in a department who's client group is supported by a relative in Human Resources.

Present employees who marry, become related by marriage, or enter into a qualified domestic partnership, may continue their employment with Intracoastal Transportation, Inc as long as their position does not require them to directly or indirectly manage or be managed by a relative. A relative may not pose difficulties for management, security, safety, or morale.

If an employee does marry, becomes a qualified domestic partner with, or becomes related to their manager, the two should resolve the situation by reassignment. If reassignment is not possible, one of the relatives must resign from the corporation within 45 days. If the resigning relative is in a key position, management may decide to extend the resignation time by an additional 45 days - a total of 90 days.

Within 14 days of becoming related, Intracoastal Transportation, Inc employees must let their managers know about the new relationship. The managers, together with Human Resources, should:

1. decide which unit receives the reassigned relative, and
2. examine how the reassignment affects the unit.

Intracoastal Transportation, Inc may find it necessary to deny relatives certain jobs that require confidentiality, or that present possible conflicts of interest or security risks. This exclusion extends to consultants, temporary help, or subcontractors who are employed by, or who seek employment with Intracoastal Transportation, Inc.
